International Arbiter

Hello! My name is Robert Hungaski. I’m a professional chess player, coach and arbiter from the United States, currently living in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After deciding to pursue chess professionally, the first milestones of my career were winning the gold medal for team USA at the 2007 Pan-American Junior Championship, representing the U.S. at three World Championships (2005, 2006 & 2007) and achieving my Grand Master title in 2013.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Connecticut (Class of ’12) with a double major in Philosophy and Political Science, but have remained an active chess professional. I’m a recurrent Resident GM at the Saint Louis Chess Club, one of the official coaches for the U.S. Chess Federation at international youth competitions, as well as the coach of Argentina’s Olympic team. Although I focus mainly on coaching, I remain an active player and qualified for the 2021 World Cup.

Outside the realm of competitive chess, I enjoy performing blindfold simul exhibitions. So far, I have performed twenty-four such exhibitions, ranging between six to ten boards, spanning seventeen cities and three countries.

In 2017 I began to branch out as an arbiter and organizer, as well. Since then I have attained the title of International Arbiter and have become involved in the organization of various types of events. In 2023 I launched a 10-tournament circuit across ten different Argentine provinces and am currently pursuing the title of International Organizer.

If you’re looking to do something chess-related, then I’m probably your guy. Feel free to get in touch with me via e-mail at: gmhungaski@gmail.com
